Phase separation and coarsening in vitreous systems

Using X-Ray tomography at the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility), we study the coarsening of domains after the spinodal decomposition of a borosilicate glass.

Visualization of the minority phase. Blue is the percolating domain, red are isolated domains, after 6, 23, 34, and 64 minutes at 1130°C. The box size is 250 microns.
